State Operations Intern

About the Organization: Council for a Strong America is the parent non-profit for five membership organizations comprising five pillars of U.S. leadership—law enforcement, military, business, faith, and athletics—working together to prepare young Americans for success.

We are national and nonpartisan, working to support programs that help give children and youths a strong start. We advocate for high-quality early childhood education, child abuse and neglect prevention, afterschool programs for children and teens, and interventions to get troubled kids back on track. We do not fund or operate any direct service programs for children. We have more than 60 staff across 9 state offices and the national office in Washington, DC.

About the Internship: We are seeking undergraduate students or recent graduates looking for policy and/or membership experience in Washington, D.C. This is a one-semester internship program that offers students the opportunity to work closely with the organization’s State Operations and Policy Team on a variety of goals.

The State Operations and Policy Team, including the intern, has the privilege of working with each of our membership organizations:

  • Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, a national crime prevention organization of more than 5,000 police chiefs, sheriffs, prosecutors, and other law enforcement leaders.
  • ReadyNation, a national business leader organization with nearly 2,000 members.
  • Mission: Readiness, a national security organization of more than 600 retired generals and admirals.
  • Shepherding the Next Generation, a national faith-based organization of more than 800 pastors and ministry leaders.
  • Champions for America’s Future, a national organization of more than 300 athletes and coaches.

Internship Description:

  • State conference preparations
  • State policy letters and media drafts
